Goten

Goten (Son Goten) is the younger son of Goku and his wife Chi-Chi, making him a Saiyan and Earthling hybrid. Goten is Gohan's younger brother and Trunks' best friend. Goten's appearance as a child is very similar to Goku's childhood look, including messy, unkempt hair and a playful face. He also wears a similar orange gi to Goku's, minus the kame symbol along with a dark blue long-sleeved undershirt and black training shoes with dark blue shin guards in the Majin Buu Arc. Goten is known for looking almost identical to his father as a child, to the point when Goku first meets Goten he proclaims "I think there is a little me hiding behind your leg Chi-Chi!" This resemblance to his father is pointed out numerous times by other characters throughout the series, as well as in a few video games. His appearance drastically changes as he grows older, towards the end of Dragon Ball Z. Goten's hair grew, so that he would not be mistaken for Goku and is seen with a shaggier hairstyle as such and also wears an orange Gi similar to what Pan wears at the World Martial Arts Tournament. In Dragon Ball Super, Goten wears his gi without the blue undershirt as he did in the Majin Buu arc. He also wears blue armbands, which he previously didn't. In Dragon Ball GT, his hairstyle becomes spiky, straight and tilted.

He begins to look like his brother Gohan as in contrast to Goku. In the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, Goten wears a Green long-sleeved shirt with a yellow T-shirt underneath and wears purple pants and golden boots just like the ones Trunks wore. Later in GT, he wears a White long-sleeved shirt with a purple T-shirt underneath and wears purple pants and golden boots. In Dragon Ball Heroes, Xeno Goten's appearance after joining the Time Patrol is that of GT Goten, but with informal martial arts clothes almost identical to Xeno Trunks', most notably a black trench coat. As a child, Goten is naïve, fun-loving and kind-hearted like his father. He is also somewhat mischievous, due to being influenced by his best friend Trunks and joins him in their many antics. Between Trunks and himself, he is surprisingly the voice of reason, though he usually goes along with the former's ideas. Goten is also well mannered, as he always bows before he faces someone in a fight. He looks up to and greatly admires his older brother Gohan (he was the only person who finds Gohan's embarrassing Great Saiyaman costume to be "cool"). When Trunks had blamed the tournament intermission on Gohan's defeat in the previous match, Goten quickly became agitated and aggressive towards the other in an attempt to defend his older brother's honor.

However in Dragon Ball Super his opinion of Great Saiyaman has changed as he rejects a Great Saiyaman costume that Gohan had made for Goten, considering it lame showing that his tastes have changed. Unlike his older brother, Chi-Chi having mellowed out following Goku's death allowed Goten to have more freedom growing up and even took it upon herself to train Goten in the martial arts. This allowed him to develop an interest in play fighting and sparring. He was also able to transform into a Super Saiyan while training with Chi-Chi, though she reacted negatively to the transformation due to her negative opinion of the form itself and told Goten never to transform again, causing him to avoid transforming in her presence, though it is implied that he and Trunks would transform in secret while play fighting, allowing him to master the form before he could even fly. After witnessing Gohan's transformation, he asked his brother if it was okay he transformed as well, much to Gohan's surprise. He later became more willing to transform even when his mother was present such as during his Junior World Tournament battle with Trunks. Goten loves play-fighting and bug catching. Goten also shows great love for wild animals, a trait obviously passed down from his father Goku, as he is seen often getting distracted from training by them on more than one occasion. Goten also shares the typical Saiyan appetite, like his father and brother. In one episode following Trunks and Goten awakening at Kami's Lookout after being knocked out by Vegeta, Trunks successfully wakes up Goten by telling him it was time to eat, which made Goten excited; this is similar to what Bulma used to wake Goku up when he was facing Jackie Chun. Goten's favorite food is pocky sticks and strawberry daifuku. As a teenager and an adult, Goten is still kind-hearted and considerate of other people, but is seen to be more mature. He settles down to live more or less as a normal teenager, worrying more about girls and bikes than fighting.

Trunks

Trunks (トランクス, Torankusu) is the first Earthling and Saiyan hybrid son of Bulma and Vegeta, and the older brother of Bulla. Trunks has his grandfather's lavender hair color and his mother's blue eyes. He has his father's eye shape, facial features and tanned skin and his hair turns blond and eyes turn (pupil-less) green when he becomes a Super Saiyan. Present Trunks wears a dark green gi, an orange belt, orange wristbands and the same golden boots that Future Trunks wears, he also wears this in the movie, Bio-Broly. In the events of Broly - Second Coming, Trunks wears a light green long sleeve hoodie with a black short sleeve undershirt with a red collar, indigo blue denim shorts and his golden boots from his primary outfit. He later wears Maloja's necklace. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Trunks wears overalls and a blue undershirt with maroon wristbands. At the end of Dragon Ball Z, Trunks now wears a black long-sleeved shirt, a golden vest, dark gray pants and the same golden boots that he wore as a child.

Later he wears a black sleeveless muscle shirt with a CAPSULE logo at the center of his shirt, gray pants and his boots from his childhood. In Dragon Ball Super, Trunks wears a yellow jacket with a white undershirt, jeans, and maroon wristbands. During Bulma's birthday party, he wears a Hawaiian shirt with shorts and sunglasses. As a child during the Majin Buu arc, Trunks is shown to be quite cocky and stingy just like his father, as well as mischievous, most likely due to the fact that this Trunks grew up with his father Vegeta and enjoyed the luxuries of peace, while Future Trunks grew up without Future Vegeta and in an apocalyptic world, causing him to be much more serious and cautious. Trunks has a combination of both of his parents' personalities: cocky and proud like his father and spoiled and selfish like his mother. He refuses to respect someone he does not like, another trait he shares with his father. This is shown when he disrespects Goku when they first meet, as Trunks believes he is not as strong as his father and again when he wondered why he wasn't present when his father was killed. Later on, Trunks does gain more respect for Goku after seeing Goku's Super Saiyan 3 power in action when holding off Majin Buu. He is shown to be loving towards his parents and grandparents and will not think twice about defending his family.

Trunks tends to usually take control over the younger Goten, stating to him numerous times how he is both older and stronger (during childhood). In his later years, Trunks adopts a personality similar to his future counterpart's. During and in between his battles at the World Martial Arts Tournament, he acts just like his father does, calm when he fights and insulting his opponents. Though he does not act like this during his battle with Goten, because he is his best friend or due to the possibility he could lose. Due to his maternal side of the family being scientists, he also possesses a significantly huge amount of knowledge about biological and science-related knowledge from a young age, as demonstrated in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, when he correctly identifies what the Culture Tank equipment is used for at age eight, as well as correctly defining two-thirds of what biotechnology is (the only thing he was not able to answer was what genetic engineering is). Along with inheriting the scientific mind of his mother and maternal grandfather, Trunks is also shown to possess a tactical mind like his father and paternal grandfather, as demonstrated by his and Giru's deception of Dr. Myuu and his forces on planet M-2 during the Baby Saga. During the Future Trunks Saga Trunks showned respect towards his Future self. Soon when his Future self was sulking he approached him and berated him for moping around after one loss and thinking that he's being a coward. In Dragon Ball GT, Trunks wears a black long sleeved shirt with a blue bandana, brown leather gloves, a light tan jacket, white baggy short slacks and the same golden boots that he wore as a child. During the events of Baby Saga where he was possessed by Baby until the events of the Shadow Dragon Saga, he is not seen wearing his light tan jacket. His hair is now purple instead of lavender.

Future Trunks

Future Trunks (Mirai no Torankusu) is the Saiyan and Earthling hybrid son of Vegeta and Bulma from an alternate future. By the time present Trunks was born, the timeline had been altered by Future Trunks' and Cell's trips to the past. Therefore, the two Trunks had completely different lives (as opposed to those who lived before the Time Machines arrived, they lived exactly the same lives as their counterparts until the point at which the two timelines diverge: three years before the androids arrived). Well-mannered, serious and very cautious, Trunks hails from an alternate timeline in which Android 17 and Android 18 murdered the Z Fighters and proceeded to create apocalyptic hell on Earth. Trunks is trained by Future Gohan as a teenager and becomes a gifted fighter, swordsman and a Super Saiyan; traits that aid him greatly in the battle against the Androids after traveling back in time in order to save his own future. Trunks is a slim yet well-built young man of above average height and light skin-color; his facial features and skin-tone are inherited from his father. He has blue eyes and lavender (light purple/blue in the manga) colored hair that is soft and straight that parts from the top of his head to frame both sides of his face reaching his ears with two loose strands over his forehead; traits he inherited from his mother. In his childhood, his hair parted at his right temple with strands hanging out and the top of his head sweeping to the left. As a teenager-on, his hairline parted at the center of his head. In his childhood, he wore a white shirt with blue long sleeves and the Capsule Corporation title on the chest along with grey sweatpants and blue boots. When during his first adventure in the present timeline, he is usually seen wearing an indigo jacket reaching his abdomen with the Capsule Corporation logo on the right sleeve, a black tank-top, gray pants with a white belt, and golden boots, and computerized watch. His most noticeably accessory is his broadsword hanging on his back and hanging over his right shoulder in a red sheath with a blue strap. Later for his battle against Cell, he wears clothing identical to his father's: a blue skin-tight jumpsuit with a Saiyan Battle Armor, white boots with yellow tips, and white gloves. Following his training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he grows noticeably taller and muscular, though still somewhat shorter and thinner than Goku. He also sports longer hair reaching past his shoulders, which is later cut back to its normal length. In the movie Bojack Unbound, Trunks retains his primary attire in the Androids Saga but his indigo jacket has been replaced with an identical vest, and also retains his long hair. In Dragon Ball Super, Trunks' clothes change somewhat from the outfit he initially wore; he wears a periwinkle-colored jacket that reaches his waist with the Capsule Corporation logo on the left sleeve, with a long red scarf around his neck, dark gray pants, and pale-green boots with black tips. Underneath his jacket, Trunks wears an olive green shirt with patches on the shoulders and forearms, reminiscent of British military standard issue jumpers.

Noticeably, his hair and eyebrow color is now blue, just like his mother, rather than his original lavender color. In the games Dragon Ball Online, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse and Dragon Ball Heroes, Trunks dons clothing inspired by various military uniforms from World War I and II. Trunks wears a World War-esque black trench coat with a fur-lined collar and an olive green sweater underneath, olive green pants with lighter-colored bandages around his shins and brown colored laced boots which. Additionally, Trunks also carries a new sword, while wearing these clothes. Trunks, having never met his father, nor grown up under his influence, combined with the fact that he grew up in an apocalyptic world, is very cautious, broody, and serious (such as when he begged Vegeta not to challenge the Androids without Goku being present or when he did not want Vegeta to trust Paragus), unlike his main timeline counterpart, who had a personality very similar to his father's. Due to living in such harsh times and trying to find any means necessary to destroy the androids, Trunks lacks the arrogance and pride of Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta and uses methods unbecoming of a traditional Saiyan warrior. Examples include suggesting that Goku eat a Senzu Bean during his fight against Perfect Cell and attempting to destroy present Androids 17 and 18 before they could be activated. This contrasts his present day counterpart, who arrogantly stated he intended to fight Goten with one hand on one occasion. Future Trunks clearly fears the Androids, panicking at the introduction of Android 16. He also appears to be afflicted with a degree of post-traumatic stress as a result of the struggles he faced in his apocalyptic nightmarish world. Nevertheless, Future Trunks is depicted as incredibly respectful to everyone, especially his mother Future Bulma and his master Future Gohan. When he finally meets Vegeta in the past, Future Trunks is seen to be constantly trying to impress him. This is often mixed with disgust and horror towards his father's uncaring attitude towards those around him, especially when Vegeta refused to save Bulma and baby Trunks when Dr. Gero blows up their capsule airplane, forcing Future Trunks to save his present counterpart and mother. Because he comes from the future and believes he knows what is going to happen, Future Trunks is usually shown thinking that only some things will matter and others probably would not (although he is usually right in the long term). This is shown in, at first, his resistance to do anything unless Goku is present. Other things, such as his surprise that Piccolo's fusion would make a difference, also show this. As such, he is usually surprised at events (on a different layer than the fact that history was different from his recollection).

He is even (though very rarely) shown to be cocky, such as when he became a 3rd Grade Super Saiyan, but when he loses his seeming "advantage" this cockiness dissolves instantly. Molded from his dark timeline, he is very serious and is a determined fighter like his father. Unlike his father or alternate timeline self, Future Trunks is often shown to be very polite and well-mannered. This is clearly shown in the original version through his speech, as he is often heard using the polite form of Japanese phrases when addressing his allies. However, Future Trunks does have some qualities typical of Saiyans, especially before he went into the past. Before jumping into the past, Future Trunks had little interest in his mother's invention, believing it to be unnecessary and not entirely believing that Goku was the caliber of warrior that was needed to defeat the Androids, but after he got thrashed good and hard by the Androids from his timeline after becoming a Super Saiyan, he finally decided that he was ready to give her idea a try. After Black appeared on Earth, brought humanity to the brink of extinction, killed his mother, and almost Future Mai, Trunks' post-traumatic stress began to resurface, when he mistook Goku for Black, and attacked him without thinking, and only stopped after noticing Bulma, realizing he had arrived in the past, and when he was flying to Gohan's house, Trunks began to have visions of his destroyed future instead of the peaceful present timeline. Despite achieving his goal of returning to the past, and seeing all of his friends alive and well, Trunks still couldn't let go of the traumatic events he'd been through, and always had a saddened and uncomfortable look on his face. Only when he met Gohan and his family, Trunks was finally able to lighten up and start enjoying himself in the past. Another trait of Trunks' personality that was hinted in Dragon Ball Super was that Future Trunks only desired to become stronger in order to defeat the current threat that appeared before him (The Androids, Future Majin Buu, and Black), and defeating those threats were his only goals. Vegeta told Trunks that he shouldn't train simply when a new enemy appeared, and his goal in life should be training every day to become stronger, because he would never know when an enemy stronger than the one before could appear, and should always be ready for them, despite being in times of peace. This caused Trunks to finally realize the reason behind Vegeta's desire for excessive training, and also made Trunks promise his father to not only defeat Black, but grow stronger than he ever did before to protect the future. After being defeated by Future Zamasu and Black (even with Goku and Vegeta's assistance), and realizing the rogue kaioshin's immortality and the dark entity's ever growing power, Future Trunks felt utterly hopeless on being able to save everyone in his time, but eventually got over it thanks to his Present counterpart. However even though Future Trunks is very different from his main timeline counterpart he shares one trait with him and that is his ability to create and execute complex battle strategies and attack at appropriate times during battle while battling stronger opponents to gain the advantage and this trait Future Trunks displays on a large number of occasions throughout his appearances in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super this trait he may have inherited from his father. Trunks first displays this in Dragon Ball Super on his second encounter with Black shooting a Masenko at him to distract Black so Trunks could flee to the past. Another example is when Trunks turns into Super Saiyan Third Grade to cause Vegeta to drop his guard and attack and when Vegeta gets close he powers up to Super Saiyan 2 and was able fight evenly with him for a time while Vegeta was taken aback by the change. This ability once again comes into use during the Saiyan trio's battle against Black and Future Zamasu, with Trunks able to perfectly pick his spots to intervene and deal damage to both Black and Zamasu or isolate them from one another so Trunks can have a one on one fight. During battle Future Trunks is quite easily able to see through and adapt and change tactics, something no other Saiyan displays, even Gohan. This trait shined the most when Trunks stayed behind to fight both Black and Zamasu at the same time, effectively able to learn and adapt to how Zamasu was protecting Black to actually get damage onto Black and was even able to knock Black out cold at one point. Future Trunks is very close to Future Mai and is quite protective of her, such as when he thought Goku Black killed her, he became enraged and attacked the dark entity. After returning the second time and learning that Mai survived, he was tearfully relieved. He has saved her life on a number of occasions. Trunks consoled her after she became enraged by Zamasu exterminating the Earthlings. Humorously whenever someone mentions the possibility of them being in a relationship, Trunks denies it while blushing at the same time. At the end of the Future Trunks Saga, after leaving with Mai in the Time Machine, Trunks felt immense guilt on not being able to save everyone in his timeline. Gohan appearing to bid farewell and to take care caused Trunks to tearfully remember the times he spent with Future Gohan, causing Trunks to cheer up and look forward to protecting everyone in the new timeline. Future Trunks' favorite food are convenience store bento,[2] and he enjoys tinkering with machines.

Yamcha

Yamcha (Yamucha) is a main protagonist in the Dragon Ball manga and in the anime Dragon Ball, and later a supporting protagonist in Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super, with a few appearances in Dragon Ball GT. He is a former boyfriend of Bulma and the lifelong best friend of Puar. A former desert bandit, Yamcha was once an enemy of Goku, but quickly reformed and became a friend and ally. Brave, boastful and dependable, Yamcha is a very talented martial artist and one of the most powerful Humans on Earth, possessing skills and traits that allow him to fight alongside his fellow Z Fighters when major threats loom. Although he retired by the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, due to being largely outclassed by both his allies (namely the Saiyans) and their enemies, he is always present whenever a new threat approaches, and will occasionally lend a helping hand, thus proving himself to be a powerful ally in his own right. Yamcha's appearance changes throughout the series, mainly his clothes and hairstyle. Yamcha started out the series with long hair and bangs. After settling down in the city, he cut his hair to fit in. Later on, he would grow his hair out again and eventually cut short to a spikier hairstyle and completely short before outgrowing his hair once again. Several of Yamcha's hairstyles are also used by Gohan at various points in his life. Another of Yamcha's most significant appearance changes were the mysterious scars he got sometime during his three years training for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.

According to Android 19's scanner, Yamcha is 183 centimeters tall and weighs 68 kilograms, during the Androids Saga. The first kanji Yamcha has on his clothes 楽 (raku) stands for "comfort" or "easy"; there is no real meaning behind it other than he just enjoys being comfortable. After training with Master Roshi, he takes the "turtle" or "Kame" kanji "亀" as a sign of respect. Later, after training with King Kai, he wears both "Kame and "Kai" kanji. He wears them the opposite way Goku did ("Kame" on the back and "Kai" on the chest), except in Dragon Ball Z: The Tree of Might where he wears the "Kai" kanji on the back and "Kame" on the chest. Yamcha sometimes wears a white martial arts outfit with black trousers that bears a striking resemblance to the outfit worn by Bruce Lee during his fight with O'Hara in the film Enter the Dragon, as shown during one of his brief appearances in the Red Ribbon Army Saga and in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (an outfit similar is also worn by Tsukutsun Tsun in the Dr. Slump remake). In the Majin Buu saga, Yamcha wears a yellow suit jacket along with a white long-sleeved shirt and wears yellow suit pants and black shoes. At the end of Dragon Ball Z and throughout Dragon Ball GT, Yamcha now has his hair long again and wears it in a ponytail and retains the same outfit that he wore in the Majin Buu Saga as his undershirt are now sleeveless. When Akira Toriyama decided to create Dragon Ball, he used Wu Cheng'en's Journey to the West as a prototype for his own series. Yamcha is most likely based on Sha Wujing, also known as Sha Seng and Sha Heshang, from this novel. Both are powerful bandits who are associated with sand, (Yamcha from a sandy desert, Sha from a sand river), who reform and join the heroes on their quest. Yamcha is originally characterized as a deadly warrior, who fears nothing but talking to women. After befriending Goku and the others, his personality remains mostly the same, but becomes very caring and considerate of the people he protects.

He is showcased as a courageous warrior who strives to be the best, but is unable to reach this status, a fact that appears to plague him. He has a great network of information, recognizing Goku's Power Pole as Grandpa Gohan's during their first fight. Yamcha is a huge fan of the World Martial Arts Tournament and has always wanted to compete and someday win. It is likely this is why he has knowledge of famous fighters like Grandpa Gohan, Monster Carrot, Bacterian and King Chappa. Whenever the tournament date neared, Yamcha would always go through vigorous training and invent a new technique like the Blinding Wolf Fang Fist, Neo Wolf Fang Fist and the Spirit Ball. He is the second fighter to learn the Kamehameha since the beginning of Dragon Ball (after Goku). In early Dragon Ball Z, he shows great pride in defending Earth from the Saiyans, willing to put his life on the line to stop them; which he evidently does. Although he his killed, he dies a hero's death. After returning from the dead, he prepares to battle the Androids. During this time he and Bulma break up for good (though they remain friends) and she ends up with Vegeta, which frustrated him. After seeing Vegeta's emotional reaction to Future Trunks' death, Yamcha forgave him and is later seen being friendly with Vegeta. Yamcha is also on good terms with Trunks and tells Future Trunks that his father really loved him. After being nearly killed by Dr. Gero, he takes more of a comical approach and becomes largely outmatched in battle due to the ever growing power of the enemies the Z Fighters face. It appears whatever passion and resolve for fighting he had disappears with the emergence of the Super Saiyans, who severely outclass him in fighting ability and he eventually comes to accept this. After realizing that his enemies severely overpower him, unlike Tien, who wishes to fight despite the odds, Yamcha accepts that his contribution would be futile, and instead opts to stand aside and keep watch, instead of engaging in combat. Despite this fact, he remains a trusted ally and will fight on occasion when needed. During the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, he retires from fighting, but continues training and goes off on his own. In Dragon Ball Super, it is revealed Yamcha actually has grown stronger and has been training. However, he uses his strength for baseball rather than fighting at this time. Yamcha expressed a strong desire to get married, which was the reason why he wanted to cure his fear of women. He also expressed excitement at the thought of starting a family.[22] The Dragon Ball: Bouken Special book, released during the King Piccolo Saga, says he is nervous around women except for Bulma. Future Trunks states during the Trunks Saga, that Yamcha later fully got over his nervousness around women and that his promiscuity caused Bulma to break up with him in his timeline. Future Trunks states that after Bulma and Yamcha broke up, Yamcha found a new girlfriend. Although she never appeared in any Dragon Ball media, Yamcha's new girlfriend is mentioned at the end of the Cell Games Saga, when Shenron asks for a wish and Yamcha jokingly proposes he wish for a necklace for his girlfriend. Despite originally saying it was his dream to get married and Trunks saying that he found love again, Yamcha appears to be single in Dragon Ball GT.

Tien Shinhan

Tien Shinhan (Tenshinhan) is a disciplined, reclusive and heavily devoted martial artist, and one of the strongest Earthlings within the Dragon Ball universe, he also possess a few non-human traits due to being descended from the Three-Eyed People. He battles alongside the other Z Fighters when major threats to the Earth surface, often courageously engaging enemies far more powerful than himself. However, he spends most of his time training with his lifelong best friend, Chiaotzu. Tien's non-combat outfit typically consists of a Hanfu (Han-style) robe with loose pants and boots, in contrast to the Manchu-style clothing most Chinese characters in the series wear.

Tien Shinhan was originally a cold-hearted and ruthless warrior, never caring for anyone's life with the exception of his fellow students and mentors. This brutality can be plainly seen when he crushes Yamcha's and another fighter's leg during the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. However, he finds a lifelong best friend in Chiaotzu, for whom he cares deeply, and vice-versa. He highly idolized his mentor Mercenary Tao and desired to be a famous assassin like him. Due to Master Roshi's and Goku's consolations, he changed his demeanor and became one of the most respected warriors on the planet. Before he transitioned to the good side, he planned to kill Goku during the World Martial Arts Tournament as he was seen as a threat to himself and his cohorts. However, this mentality soon changes with the realization that he disagrees with the brutal methods employed by his masters, Shen and Mercenary Tao.

He goes off on his own to train and soon becomes a powerful ally to Goku and the others. His personality transitions from one of a brutal killer to that of an honorable warrior who cares deeply for those he strives to protect. He occasionally tries to repent for his former brutality, but eventually rises above his horrid memories and looks toward to the future. He is very stern and serious, not cracking jokes as often as most of the other Z Fighters. During Dragon Ball Z, he is seen striving to become a powerful warrior and still hopes to surpass Goku one day. Tien despises staying on the sidelines whilst his more powerful friends and allies fight opponents far stronger than he and will always attempt to assist even if he knows that it will most likely lead to his death. Despite making new friends, Tien stays reclusive and is not very socially active, spending most of his time training to become a better fighter. He valiantly fights and defeats a Saibaman when the Saiyans arrive, and does battle with Nappa, during which Chiaotzu sacrifices himself in vain, causing Tien Shinhan to put all his effort into one final attack, which fails. Tien Shinhan dies a hero's death, but is revived later by Porunga. When the conflict with the Androids comes into full swing, Tien puts his life on the line numerous times when assisting his friends against the mechanical demons, most notably when using his life-force to hold Semi-Perfect Cell at bay, nearly sacrificing his own life to allow Android 16 and Android 18 to escape, thus saving the Earth from certain destruction. When Super Buu threatens Earth's existence seven years later, Tien arrives just in time to save Gohan from certain death.

Bulma

Bulma (Buruma) is a brilliant scientist and the second daughter of Capsule Corporation's founder Dr. Brief and his wife Panchy, the younger sister of Tights, and is Goku's first friend. She used to be the girlfriend of Yamcha,but moved on and, eventually, became the wife of Vegeta, as well as the mother of Trunks and Bulla. While she is unable to physically fight most of the villains in the series, her gadgetry plays a key role in winning several battles as well as the search for the dragon balls. Bulma is the most significant female character in the series. Aside from Goku, Bulma is the single longest-running character in the entire meta-series, being introduced in the first Dragon Ball chapter and episode, and maintaining a prominent role until the final chapter of the manga and the final episode of Dragon Ball GT. In Toriyama's first draft of Dragon Ball, Bulma's design was significantly different giving her the appearance of a western girl. During the second draft Bulma had the braided ponytail that she had in her first appearance but older looking with a different styled dress. The third draft gave her the name of Pinchi and had exactly the same design as the final draft but her clothes her tight black pants with a shirt that had her shoulders exposed. Throughout the entire series, Bulma has changed her appearance more than any character going through a total of 18 different hairstyles. In the original manga, her hair is purple, and in the anime it is turquoise. Her hairstyle was shoulder-length as a teenager. Many of the clothes Bulma is seen wearing often bear her name or the Capsule Corporation logo on it. She had a tender appearance in her teen years, like her milky colored skin. In her teen years her bust measurement was 85 cm, her waist measurement was 58 cm, and her hip measurement was 84 cm. As an adult her bust measurement was 87.2 cm before breastfeeding, and 83.4 cm after. In her initial appearance, Bulma had her hair in a braided ponytail with a red ribbon and wore a very short pink dress with her name on it with blue sneakers and purple socks. Due to wetting her panties when being captured by a pterodactyl, her clothes are quickly changed to a pair of boots, gray pants and a blue jacket with a white tank top underneath with her hair unchanged. When she was staying the night in her Capsule House she wore a pink nightgown with one side of her hair in a pigtail and adds a pair of pink socks and blue sneakers to it when she was forced to take Turtle to the beach. After coming back from the beach, Bulma is briefly seen in a white shirt and pants with brown shoes and gloves when attempting to ride Goku's Flying Nimbus. When dealing with Oolong in Aru Village, Bulma is seen in one of her more consistent appearances featuring her hair down and wearing a pair of brown short shorts, red & white shoes, pink socks, a red jacket with a white shirt underneath and a red hat with her name on it. Since she loses her Capsules at a river, she is forced to wear a Bunny costume since she thinks the previous outfit got too dirty for her to wear. She wears the Bunny costume until she gets a pair of gypsy styled clothes at Monster Carrot's Village.

The gypsy clothes consisted of her hair in a ponytail while wearing white suit with a red waistband, a golden collar, a small blue jacket, gold armlets,and red sandals. She wears this outfit until she gets back to West City. When she attended the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament she wears a red tank top that has her name on it, a white shirt underneath, orange skirt, yellow socks and purple shoes. Her hair is also pony tail with a red bow on her head. During the time, Bulma met back with Goku in West City during his time being targeted by the Red Ribbon Army, Bulma wore a red tube top that leaves her shoulders exposed, orange shorts, and pink shoes with purple socks while having her hair in a side ponytail. When she was with Krillin being pursued by General Blue in the Pirate Cave she left her shorts, shoes, and socks behind to swim and was just in her red tube top and red panties although at the back of her panties it shows her butt cracks while wearing it. After getting back to Kame House after the incident she is seen wearing an outfit which is identical to the outfit worn before but everything being pink. She wears this outfit all the way until the end of the Fortuneteller Baba Saga. After the three year time skip, has her hair cut shorter and wears an opened up orange sweatshirt, a red shirt underneath, white skirt, orange socks and blue shoes with orange laces at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. She wears this same outfit minus the orange sweatshirt for part of the King Piccolo Saga. In the later half, she switches to a blue shirt and skirt. After King Piccolo's defeat Bulma is seen wearing a white and blue stripped shirt with an orange skirt. After another three year time skip during the Piccolo Jr. Saga, she wears a sleeveless purple dress with a white belt that has a pouch to the side. She also is wearing white boots with yellow socks and has her hair at shoulder length again as well as wearing red lipstick. She also wears pink earrings and wears a pink bracelet on her left wrist. She also had the same appearance in Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest and Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. After the five-year gap that begins Dragon Ball Z, Bulma has her hair cut short again and wears white shorts, blue socks, blue and orange shoes and a blue shirt that leaves her shoulders exposed underneath an open white coat. After the year has passed in the middle of the Saiyan Saga, Bulma wears a blue shirt with a white collar and white edges on the sleeves as well as matching blue shorts with the edges on the bottom. Her hair is also back to a pony tail with a red bow. After the battle of the Saiyans is over, Bulma wears a white shirt that says Capsule Corporation and a pair of tight red jeans and has her hair all the way down with it longer than before. While on the ship on their trip to Namek, Bulma had her hair cut to shoulder length again and wore only her gray tank top and panties while traveling on board the Nameless Namek's spaceship (a reference to Ellen Ripley in the Alien films).

While on Namek, she wore a perfectly fitting black jumpsuit on the whole body with a yellow tunic over it and pair of orange boots as with as a red hairband. In the Android Saga, she wore a burgandy long-sleeved shirt, white pants and her hair was still shoulder-length which is also retained in Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan while in Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound, she wears a yellow dress with a pearl necklace and retains her hairstyle from the Android Saga. In the Buu Saga, she wore a sleeveless green dress with the shoes similar to what her sons wears and her hair is bowl-cut and she also wears gold hoop earrings. At the Capsule Corporation garage, she wears a brown long-sleeved button-down shirt with dark green pants, a dark brown vest and brown gloves. At the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and in the majority of the Buu Saga, her green dress is replaced with a sleeveless red dress and a yellow kerchief tied around her neck, although she switches back to the green dress for the party celebration for the defeat of Kid Buu in "He's Always Late". In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Bulma wears a sleeveless purple dress and a light green kerchief tied around her neck resembling her outfit that she wore in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament and wears red sneakers and also wears small gold earrings instead of gold hoop earrings. In Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, she wears the same appearance from the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament in the Majin Buu Saga while in Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon, her red dress and a yellow kerchief is replaced by a blue dress which resembles her green dress. For Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ and Dragon Ball Super, Bulma receives a new outfit which she wears a white tank top, a red bandanna, jeans, and cowgirl boots and wears stud earrings. After the Kid Buu Saga, she wears a yellow and black dress with a black leather jacket and brown gloves and black boots and retains her bowl-cut hairstyle from the Majin Buu Saga, but with an open bang and now wears gold triangle earrings. In Dragon Ball GT, Bulma wears a long-sleeved orange dress with white pearls and black boots and retains the same hairstyle and the same gold triangle earrings from the end of Dragon Ball Z. Her personality was based on the princess from Akira Toriyama's one-shot Dragon Boy and her appearance was from Plamo from another one of Toriyama's one-shots named The Adventures of Tongpoo. Bulma has a temperamental personality while being very tomboyish and girly at the same time. While known for her extreme intellect, Bulma is considerably spoiled and vain, using her great beauty as an excuse for her selfish behavior. Her selfishness prevented her from being able to ride the Flying Nimbus. While in stressful conditions, she becomes frightened easily and gets angry toward everyone including her allies. Bulma tends to have a great deal of concern over her hygiene, frequently complaining when circumstances prevent her from taking a bubble bath or replenishing her beauty supplies, even when her hygiene is the least of her worries such as being stranded in the wilderness. Despite her temperament, Bulma often displays friendliness and helpfulness towards others. She tends to approach major situations rationally, often making crucial decisions on her own, and she tends to be very persistent in achieving her goals. As she gets more mature, Bulma focuses on becoming a great scientist and helps out by creating and fixing inventions that help the Z Fighters and her family. She is shown to be very witty, usually teasing her friends, apart of being happy and easy-going. Bulma enjoys strawberries, attractive boys and bubble baths. While dealing in certain social dilemmas, Bulma sometimes has to deal with using her sex appeal to get what she wants. Though she shows a strong annoyance to perverted men, she herself got infatuated towards any attractive guy she saw even in her early adulthood. At times, she doesn't watch her mouth which gets her into trouble. Despite their rocky start and quarrelsome natures, Bulma tends to have a unanimous relationship with Vegeta, deeply caring for each other, yet she often teases him in a jokingly way. Although she initially showed a lack of responsibility when she took her first baby with her to see the androids, Bulma is a loving mother, deeply caring both of her children, usually scolding Trunks when he escapes with Goten without asking and being extremely relieved after find that he is fine after a major battle. As she got older, Bulma was shown to have some irritation towards her fellow Z-Fighters for constantly relying on the Dragon Balls to revive people when dealing with a threat. This eventually came to a head when Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks were sealed inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber when fighting Super Buu, where she called them out on their stating they'll revive Goten and Trunks with the Dragon Balls in case they get killed, especially when Goten and Trunks were children (also calling the rest of the Z-Fighters cowards in the Japanese dub), after Krillin suggested that Piccolo, Goten and Trunks commit suicide and then revive them. Though she is not a fighter, Bulma can be violent when angered and defend herself if need be. Several characters such as Krillin, Gohan, Goku and even to some extent Vegeta, are shown to fear her violent temper. When it seemed Frieza had been destroyed by the Large Spirit Bomb Krillin freaked when he remembered they had left Bulma all alone on Namek and Krillin even suggested that an angry Bulma is more terrifying than Frieza. Much later, Goku freaked out when he realized he had forgotten it was Bulma's birthday and even suggested she might be more terrifying than Beerus. She even angrily slapped the God of Destruction Beerus for ruining her part (however this was partially due her belief that Beerus was a friend of her husband's). Fortunately Beerus responded by simply slapping her right back, causing Vegeta to angrily attack Beerus in order to defend his wife. When she finally comes face-to-face with Frieza after his revival and confronts him along with the Z Fighters and Jaco, Bulma bravely confronts Frieza, to the point of even addressing the tyrant impolitely and rudely. However her confidence and bravado was shown to due to her belief that Gohan and the other Z Fighters were stronger than Frieza and quickly lost her bravado (to the point she began speaking politely to Frieza) when Gohan and Piccolo pointed out that Frieza had become far stronger than he was previously. She even attempted to get Frieza to wait for Goku, but when Frieza agreed to wait only ten seconds for Goku to appear, she lost her temper and called him a stingy jerk (and in the Funimation Dub even said "Screw You!" to Frieza).

Krillin

Krillin (Kuririn) is a supporting protagonist in the Dragon Ball manga, and the anime series Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super. Krillin had a brief rivalry with Goku when they first met and trained under Master Roshi, but they quickly became lifelong best friends. One of the most powerful and talented Human martial artists on Earth, Krillin is courageous, a faithful ally and good-natured. He is a prominent Z Fighter, despite usually being overpowered by the major enemies. His short stature and baldness (with the exception of when he grows out his hair in the Majin Buu Saga onwards) aid him in his ability to provide comic relief during tense moments. During the latter half of Dragon Ball Z, he largely retires from fighting, opting to settle down with his family instead, becoming the husband of Android 18 and the father of Marron. However, he will fight on occasion when necessary. Krillin does not have a visible nose, however, he seems to be able to smell until someone mentions it (like Goku during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament): he smells the diamond Bulma took from the Pirate Cave, and he smells the enticing trap meal in the Mirror spaceship. In the Dragon Ball: Bouken Special, when asked why Krillin does not have a nose, Akira Toriyama responded "Krillin has a physical idiosyncrasy that allows him to breathe through his skin." Earlier on in the series, Krillin had white eyes.

However, later on, they seem to have disappeared completely, making the inside of his eyes the same color as his skin. Krillin is not naturally bald, due to his original monastic training, he merely shaves his head. During his training with Goku under Master Roshi, Krillin comments that "All who aspire to master the martial arts shave their heads in order to unfetter their ki" and seemed surprised to find out Master Roshi was naturally bald. After settling down with his new family, his hair grows out, although his original smooth crowned look is the most familiar to fans. The six dots on his forehead are scars from moxibustion burns, similar to the pattern that appear on the forehead of a Shaolin monk. By the time of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Krillin has taken up the job of a police officer, he wears a uniform with a yellow shirt and blue trousers, a badge, and a helmet. When getting prepared to battle Frieza, Krillin asks Android 18 to shave his head for "old times sake". Originally a jealous and selfish person, Krillin did not respect rules when confronted with Roshi's training. After a short arch-rivalry between the two (years later, Krillin even admits that he hated Goku at first), he becomes Goku's best friend and his selfish and jealous personality becomes more kind-hearted and generous (although he still has slight selfish and jealous traits after his reform). Krillin is often used as comic relief or cannon fodder by the author, and has been killed the most amount of times in the Dragon Ball series. As the most prominent full-blooded human character in the Dragon Ball series, Krillin also represents a sense of normalcy to Goku and Gohan, as well as often being the most identifiable. Often when things in the Dragon World turn bizarre, it is left to Krillin to shake his head in disbelief and crack a joke. Despite his reputation as being a weakling compared to his Saiyan comrades, he is considered to be one of the stronger pure-blooded humans in the Dragon Ball series, being thousands of times stronger than the average person (although this is largely due to the fact that he was afforded much greater opportunities to increase his strength, such as gaining the ability to use ki, training under the Guardian of the Earth, and having his potential unlocked by Grand Elder Guru, things that no other human, such as Mr. Satan, ever had). Although he is not as strong as Goku or Gohan, his determination in helping his friends is a key asset. Furthermore, Krillin's ingenuity and talent for ki-manipulation is far superior than that of most warriors, even those stronger than himself, and he has an ability to sense hidden powers. Krillin had his dormant ki awakened by the Namek Elder, Guru, during the events of the Namek Saga (although it is possible that not all of his power was freed, due to the fact that Gohan still had more hidden power and that they both grew to be much stronger), and this helped keep him among the same level as his more naturally powerful friends, at least for a little while. Krillin has trained hard most of his life, becoming extremely powerful and proving it in combat with many foes. Unfortunately, he is quickly outclassed by many of the other characters in the series, such as Piccolo and the Saiyans; though among all the full-blooded humans he faces in combat he is one of the strongest. On one occasion, during the course of the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, Yamcha says to Krillin's daughter that Krillin is "the strongest human being in the world." Some fans feel that the manga, Akira Toriyama, uses Yamcha to state a fact on this scene, as he also says that Krillin is the "strongest Earthling male" in an interview.

As it is spoken in the context of Krillin being married to 18, it implies that Krillin is the strongest Earthling at least by that point in the series (this claim gets support in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors in which the final part of Krillin's story, which focus on the Majin Buu Saga, is titled as "The Strongest Earthling"). Many fans immediately will connect Krillin with his signature move, Destructo Disc, a spinning razor-sharp disk of energy that has the power to cut through just about anything. Despite its immense power, it is extremely unwieldy and hard to control. At any rate, Krillin is brave and resourceful, and the audience identifies him as a good-natured underdog. Along with Yamcha, Krillin has also, arguably, adjusted to a relatively normal life better than many of his friends by seeking women in his life. He is among the more "normal" human of his friends, as he can be seen wearing normal clothes on days where he's not fighting, other than his typical martial arts dōgi, as well as engaging in other normal every-day activities such as watching TV, going to the beach, etc. In his role as Goku's best friend, Krillin was among the only humans to remain a main character for the majority of the series, even as Master Roshi, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, Yajirobe, Chi-Chi and others faded into the background. Overall, Krillin is a highly valued character in the Dragon Ball series: powerful, loyal, and brave. He is second only to Goku in the most appearances in the manga. In some more recent movies however, Krillin has been since demoted to a comic relief character. This is most prominent in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!, when he was beaten up by Chi-Chi, clonked his head twice, had hot coffee spilled on his head, had his face fried by a stray energy bolt, had a large pile of snow dumped on him, had Vegeta sent flying into him, slipped and skidded past the main villain when he was about to attack him, and was humiliated in the hospital (he even remarks during the Vegeta incident that "Why do these things always happen to me?"). Consistent with the theme of redemption in the series, he spares Android 18's life when presented with the chance to activate her self-destruct sequence because he finds her to be redeemable. In a bit of ironic fortune, he later marries the beautiful android and later has a daughter named Marron with her.
